Baselines – Creating new Virtual Machines
You can create a Virtual machine from scratch – i.e. you might have a factory standard build, with standard OS, and standard applications (e.g. Antivirus, Patchlink etc). You may want this build to be the basis of every Virtual Machine in the factory. You can create this ‘Golden Standard’ which we call a ‘Baseline’ and then use it as a master to generate new Virtual Machines. You then just personalise each created machine with unique properties e.g. PC Name and IP Address.
This is an amazing benefit, as the time and cost to provision a new server (now a virtual machine) for your next application takes about 20 minutes and only costs the price of the operating system and the applications that you have installed. You can forget server hardware costs, UPS requirements, lead time on delivery, rack space, asset tagging and asset values.
